Wednesday Weigh-In April 29, 2009
Does the sun make you bloom?
I had the best weekend with the children.
Here in the UK the sun came out, spring was in the air and we rediscovered the outdoors with a vengeance.
We played in the garden (mainly in the wheelbarrow, which meant a spot of weightlifting for me as I heaved them around the lawn!), we went for walks, we climbed styles, we went bike riding and we took deep, full breaths of country air.
I don’t know about you, but when the sun comes out I feel, well, more alive. I want to go out and exercise, to run around with my children and to feel tired at the end of the day because I’ve actually done something.
My kids adore the outdoors. A measure of a good day in our household is how much dirt is under their fingernails. There was a lot of dirt after this weekend.
Of course there was a downside. There is always a downside!
We visited my friend Suzanne, whose husband is a bit of a cook. As we arrived at their house the smell of freshly baked cookies filled the air.
I don’t think I need to say any more. Just know that the batch he gave us to bring home? Lasted a day. Ok, ok, it was an hour, but hubby helped out . . .
Now, for the weekly Wednesday Weigh-In
David Wright
Back on track this week, half-way. I ate better than the week before but I got zero exercise. Well, unless you count chasing a two year old around the house for a nightly game of hide and seek/chase the toddler. We also play indoors basketball every night, but I’m afraid I didn’t burn enough calories to lose more than a pound.
The stats: David Wright
- Starting weight Wed. Nov.19: 350 lbs.
- Goal weight: 250 lbs.
- Weight last week: 326 lbs.
- Weight today: 325 lbs.
- Amount lost this week: 1 lbs.
- Total lost since Nov. 19: 25 pounds

Homebaked cookies aside, I’ve been so so this week. However I haven’t moved a muscle.
I’ve been rooted to my home office chair and can actually feel my ass spreading across the chair. The most exercise I’ve had is getting up to make a cup of tea. Which I do about 15 times a day – what can I tell you, I’m a tea addict.
I must must must must up my activity levels or I am in danger of becoming one with the office furniture.
The trouble is I am so busy I feel ‘guilty’ for taking an hour off and going for a walk.
I need one of you to come round, knock on my front door and drag me out!
The stats:
- Starting weight Wed. Nov.19: 168 lbs.
- Goal weight: 140 lbs.
- Weight last week: 164 lbs.
- Weight today: 164lbs
- Amount lost this week: 0lb

I have tasted Suzanne’s hubby’s cookies and they are the stuff of dreams. I don’t blame you for tucking in. He’s a Masterchef

Oh no, I have competition for the cookies. Suddenly I’ve come over all sweaty and feel the need to pop round to Suzanne’s house . . . .

Neither of you are gaining weight so don’t kick yourselves!
You both mentioned needing more exercise. Try just exercising well for 10 minutes – even if it’s not your ideal. Waiting for the ideal is often an excellent means of procrastination. Don’t give in to procrastination.

We’re getting ready to travel and my trips to the gym have suffered. I only made it there 4 times.
I did spend a lot of time on my feet this week, though, and I’m feeling the consequences.
We have a small motorhome and storage is very limited. This week, I built a small new cabinet to augment the existing cabinet in the bathroom. I also added shelving to the bottom of our little closet as we don’t take many clothes along that need to be hung up. The shelves fit the full width and depth of the closet, which is deeper on the left than the right and has a curved door. They were not simple rectangular shaped shelves. Before installing the cabinet and shelves, they were finished with cherry stain and clear satin polyurethane to come close to the finish of the other cabinetry.
On Sunday, I spent a good part of the day washing the motorhome, which included climbing up and down a ladder. Later in the day I noticed that my left knee was hurting.
Since I hadn’t done any running since Thursday, I don’t think that was the cause. However, I won’t be doing any running until the pain is gone.
We’ll be gone most of the month of May and internet access may be sporadic. I won’t be reporting weight as we won’t have a scale along with us.
Started November 1, 2008 at 285.6 lbs

This week = 265.6 lbs.
Difference = + .8 lbs.; -20 lbs since starting
Initial goal: 210 lbs.; 55.6 lbs. to go!

I was nothing but net this week. I did basic sit-ups and push-ups every day and eliminated sugar and excess calories from my diet. The fourth day was terrible, I mean like I wanted to do heinous things in rebellion, but I got over it and was flying again by Friday. I feel great and think I lost about four or five pounds. Now to keep my momentum.

My scale died, and I’m too lazy to put new batteries in it. So there you go.
I don’t think my weight is going down (probably up!), but my body fat seems to be getting better. That’s progress!

I am back home after a week at the Ethics class and conference. I passed the exam and did not gain any weight – this is amazing with all the strange foods and treats everywhere, I just ate my apples and walked the river park everyday between sessions. I chose the vegetarian entries which turned out to be mostly cheese things and I can not eat cheese – sooo this might be an indicator of why I did not gain weight.
I still have a couple of pounds to take off from the 18 I gained on that Metformin they put me on. I am exceedingly tired this week and have a kiddo home – so we made chicken and mushroom enchiladas for she and my husband and I will have salad…Nice to have this one home, she is clear across the country studying to be a Librarian – now to Alaska for the summer to make money for her last semester.
I am still able to walk the 3 miles around the Lake at home and have added back in stretching – gently. I am frustrated about my weight loss and could use a shot in the motivation zone!
So nice to be able to check in and find everyone here.
Mike on vacation – we will miss his good support
Thanks for keeping at it…I sure appreciate it

I guess I should have said that I’ll be commenting here while we’re gone when I have a chance, but I won’t be reporting my weight progress — or lack thereof — since I won’t have a scale along.

Totally fell off the fitness wagon, other than some beach walking on BEAUTIFUL Vancouver Island. However, my half-marathon is 3 weeks from today, so it’s back to training with steely determination.
@Tara – if you leave your desk for even 30 minutes, preferably 60 minutes, and exercise is some manner, you will find that you come back way more productive than if you had just worked through that hour. So, you can leave the desk and be totally guilt free about it

We loved Vancouver Island when we visited there in 1993.

We’re camped in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Rain! Rain! Rain!
We’ve taken a few walks, but no hikes as it doesn’t stop raining long enough for us to feel safe about not getting soaked. Tomorrow morning may be a good chance. We head on further east on Thursday.
No internet where we are camped — or electricity — or water connection for the camper. We’re sitting in the library at Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, catching up on internet things.
