Welcome to Blog To Fit

We're David Wright and Tara Cain, two bloggers who have come together to write about our attempts to lose weight. We're like a team of super heroes, minus the cool costumes, and well, super powers of any kind, except the ability to gain weight by simply being NEAR food.

Tara’s Weekly Update:

I have no idea why, but I suffered a big ole set back last week. I just lost it – lost the motivation, lost the drive, lost the will to put one foot in front of the other and actually MOVE.

Thankfully it seems to have only been a blip as I’m back on track now. In fact, I ate 3 biscuits after last night’s dinner (tuna steak and salad) and I felt uncomfortable and queasy. Which just goes to show, if you keep off the crap for a couple of days your body simply doesn’t want it any more – and it tells you so.

PS: Sorry for the delay in this post. DW updated the site and I couldn’t get back in! I was there on the front door banging my fists, shouting: “Lemmi in, lemmi in.”

The stats: Tara Cain

  • Starting weight Wed. Nov.19: 168 lbs.
  • Goal weight: 140 lbs.
  • Weight last week: 161 lbs.
  • Weight today: 162 lbs
  • Amount lost this week: -2lb

When I was employed full time, one of my main responsibilities was the program for training people for nuclear operator licenses. It always seemed like I gained weight with each class. This even held true last license class, which was after I retired from the company!

I was hired as a short-term supplemental instructor for the last 6 months of the last class class and I’ve been hired, again, for the current class. My intent is to buck the past trends of gaining weight during license class. Of course, I’m “just a contractor” and don’t have the stress of “running” the class like I did before I retired, so it should be easier to lose weight — except it didn’t work last class.

Despite having a summer cold, or maybe partially because of it — I didn’t give in to the stuffing-my-face-because-I-feel-bad impulse –, I made good progress this week.

I made it to the gym twice.

    Started November 1, 2008 at 285.6 lbs
    Last week = 265.2 lbs.
    This week = 261.0 lbs.
    Difference = -4.2 lbs.
Initial goal: 210 lbs.; 51.0 lbs. to go!

Wow. Don’t they say ’starve your fever, feed your cold’? I could never resist with a cold. Good for you!

Mike – congrats on the weight loss this week! Keep up the great work and good luck reversing the trend.

Tara – Yeah, Tara was “locked out” and wasn’t at all buying time hoping to work out a whole lot yesterday to make up for all those chocolate covered cherries she’s been packing in.

Aloha. I am back from my (diet) vacation.
Mhmmm. Granola bar just sounds like sugar, sugar, sugar. Cherios? David, these are bad bad bad calories. And don’t tell me you had diet soda again.
Tara, I knew you could do it. Another thing to blame you for – joining blog to fit.

I had a break from exercising, too. But Big M will babysit one evening per week and I will hit the gym, starting today. Still reluctant to put little L in a potentially flu populated creche…

    The facts:
    Starting weight: 136 pounds
    Goal weight: 125 pounds
    Last weigh-in: 130 pounds
    This week: 129 pounds
    Pounds lost: 1
How many pounds left to lose: 4

MM – I addressed Cheerios and granola bars in my post today. As for diet soda, I have no desire to give that up just yet. It is my only true addiction and I do mean addiction. Ask Tara.

Hey guys, had another good week, lost 2 lbs. I’m feeling stronger too.

Dave, I wasn’t going to say anything but MM is right. The calorie count is down, but those aren’t good calories. If you are going to do this, you need to be “all-in” on it. And I think you know what that means, the “v-word”. Vegetables. I haven’t eliminated meat, I just eat more of the other food groups now. If I can do it, you can do it. And I won’t BS you, it’s not easy.

My first job was at McDonald’s (5 years). Second job was Domino’s Pizza (10 years). How many fruits and vegetables do you think I ate those 15 years and the following years? I have 25 years of convenient eating to fix.

I don’t want to sound too “preachy” here, but I haven’t been “all-in” until the last 3 weeks, and it feels good. I was either dieting and not exercising or exercising and not dieting. You have to be “all-in” on both to see and feel results.

I took “Fowler-like” pictures 3 weeks ago, and I’ll take more in 3 weeks, and post them. I think after 6 weeks you guys will see a difference, I think I can see the difference now. I think the whole picture thing would be a good tool for you too, even if you keep them to yourself.

I fully agree – Tara SHOULD post pictures!

As for the V-Word – I know I have to do it. I am working towards it. I addressed your “All in” comment in my post today.

I wanna cry. I did all the right stuff and nofing.
    sob.
6 weeks since I started, lots of hard work and just one pound to show for it.

David, don’t let MM wind you up, Cheerios isn’t that bad, I use it as a crave buster regularly, miles better than chocolate and definitely better than a 1000kcal milk shake ;) Well done!

    David Wright Reply:

I agree on the Cheerios, they are crunchy and lower in sugar than most other snacks and cereals. I like oatmeal, too, I am out of it, though. Keep up the good work – the pounds will come off.

“I walked for a half hour and will do so again tomorrow.”

Awesome Dave! You sound so positive. Your whole attitude has changed. That’s great!

Just remember how good you felt after your walk today. Nobody really likes to exercise. It’s the feeling you get AFTER exercising that makes it worthwhile.

    David Wright Reply:

    Thank you, Susan.

Actually, I don’t mind walking all that much. The hardest part truly is making the time to do it and stepping outside the door. After that, I’m good. I could probably walk for hours if I wasn’t pushing my son around (and had more time).
