Welcome to Blog To Fit

We're David Wright and Tara Cain, two bloggers who have come together to write about our attempts to lose weight. We're like a team of super heroes, minus the cool costumes, and well, super powers of any kind, except the ability to gain weight by simply being NEAR food.

Wednesday Weigh-In Feb. 18, 2009

by Tara Cain on February 18, 2009
in Wednesday Weigh-In

This week I feel like my insides have turned to fruit.

I have eaten so many apples, bananas, grapefruit, pears and grapes that my organs feel like mush!

In my bid to stop with the snacking (oh the endless snacking) I have turned to my friend the crisp, tart apple for help.

And the sweet satsuma, the so-juicy-the-juice-drips-down-your-chin-plum and don’t even get me started on what happens to your guts when you devour a bowl of cherries in one sitting! It’s not pretty.

But I have to say, even though it has taken me all week, I now actually look forward to my fruit shot every day.
Have I retrained my taste buds? I’m not sure. I’d still happily fill up on chocolate biscuits and toast, but I don’t actually feel like I’m force feeding myself good stuff now. A grapefruit in the morning doesn’t feel like a chore.

And I do find that if I pretend those chocolate fingers aren’t there, if I ignore their little calls for me to come on over to the cupboard, just a quick visit, just open the cupboard door and take a look at us, ooo look at our nice sleek box, ooo just open us up and have a sniff . .  . Anyway, if I block out their urgent calls to me and don’t have one, I’m fine. An apple suits me just fine and dandy.

So this new revelation hasn’t altered my stats any as I only had the breakthrough on Monday, so I’m pretty sure there will be success next week.

Oh and I will be setting myself – and anyone who wants to join in – a challenge next week . . .

Now, for the weekly Wednesday Weigh-In

Tara Cain

The stats:

  • Starting weight Wed. Nov.19: 168 lbs.
  • Goal weight: 140 lbs.
  • Weight last week: 164 lbs.
  • Weight today: 164lbs
  • Amount lost this week: 0lb

David Wright

This week was probably my worst since starting. Why? Well, I’d like to blame Valentine’s Day, but nobody forced me to pig out on chocolate. I just did. Of course, the side effects of my indulgences did inspire a humorous post over at BloggerDad today.

At any rate, no loss this week. On the good side, no gain, either. I’ll be interested in seeing what Tara has planned next week.

If it involves chocolate eating and marathon toilet sitting, I’m afraid I’m already up on my competitors.

Also, if I may, Happy Birthday to my best friend (and recent BlogToFit convert) Lisa, who is feeling a bit down on her weight loss struggles of late. Good luck, Lisa. I believe in you!

The stats: David Wright

  • Starting weight Wed. Nov.19: 350 lbs.
  • Goal weight: 250 lbs.
  • Weight last week: 329 lbs.
  • Weight today: 329 lbs.
  • Amount lost this week: 0 lbs.
  • Total lost since Nov. 19: 21 pounds

Now it’s your turn. Share your success (or setback) story with us.

If you’d like to post a Wednesday Weigh-In post on your blog and help spread the word of our goals, please do so. Get all the info on how you can participate right here.

  1. Hello! Sorry long time no see. I’ve been traveling on the weekends and so not weighing in at WW. Big mistake. I’ve plateaued at a 8 or 9 lb loss, gained a couple/3 and lost those, and now can safely say I’ve hit the 10 lb net loss! What a roller coaster! This is the most difficult ten pounds ever! But now I’m exercising regularly each morning – working out to the TV and I can honestly say I’ve almost converted it into a habit. If I don’t exercise I miss it now. Cool! Great job you two!

That’s a fabulous position to be in Betsy. Well done you.
I think that’s exactly where we all need to be – exercising as a habit and not a chore.
    Great to have you back!

  2. Yay to incorporating fruit. I am not a fruit and veggie eater by nature. GIVE ME MEAT! So, I find it difficult to reach for fruit. Fortunately, the Lion packs my lunch each day and he always includes fruit, and since what is in my lunch bag is what I have to eat, I eat it. And actually enjoy it!

Yay to not gaining weight despite Valentine’s.

I haven’t done any weight or measurement stats, because as I said in last week’s post, I am focusing on a fitness goal. I will be weighing myself at the 25 push up mark. Half way there!

    100 Push Up Challenge Stats
    Day 1 – 3 Day 5 – 11
    Day 2 – 5 Day 6 – 11
    Day 3 – 6 Day 7 – 14
    Day 4 – 9

It’s only right that a panther should demand meat! Wouldn’t expect anything less.
I think the biggest surprise for me was actually enjoying grapefruit when I’ve been telling anyone who will listen for as long as I can remember that ‘I can’t stand that revolting stuff’!

I spent the weekend working away from home with easy access to a lot of crap, which I then snorted. Starting yesterday, I decided to be good. Like you said Dave, it’s only a matter of a few days until you can train yourself to expect the fruit snacks instead of the fruit roll-ups.

Fruit shots? Do you take those in the arm like a flu shot? Or do you take them in the butt like steriods? I prefer my fruit on top of my ice cream…..ooops I mean on top of my whole grain cereal!

up 6 pounds…I have the worst cold and I am whining and crabby and crumby…
I have reverted to blaming my husband who had this cold all last week…The pain in my side is diminishing – finally – it is exhausting me …

I have another massage in 30 minutes….thank my lucky stars

I got myself a primrose for Valentines Day…everyone too sick to care

I have missed my precious exercise routine for 3 months now…and my 3 mile walk for 4 days….I am a sorry sight.

I think I have reached a point where I need someone to take care of me for a day or two….my Mother is dead….my kids too far away…and my good friend is teaching NVC in Baghdad…

    Tara,
Are you able to get any Florida or Texas Grapefruit? I hated the stuff for much of my life until I had a taste of the really good stuff!
I have just discovered that grapefruit may just be the elixir that my body needs, not only for the Vitamin C but also for the fiber and acid? My newest prescription includes a 1/2 a grapefruit before each meal…just FYI

The Winter Sun came out this afternoon – I am feeling better for it and the massage.

    Oh, I’m liking Urban Panther’s push-up challenge!

I’d love to participate in the weigh-in except that I’m not good at following rules. I have no before/after weight that I’m aiming for, and for me, the stats that I are more relevant are things like resting heart rate, measurements, strength/power and most importantly, how good do I feel (ie, on scale of 1-10, how do you feel about your progress where 10 is couldn’t be better)

So, for now, I suppose I’ll just keep reading and seeing how everyone else is doing…

    Go, Blog-to-Fit, go! :)

I don’t think there’s any rule other than drop in and report each week. People are losing, gaining, or staying the same, but, for me, at least, this every week comment and post gives me a benchmark, plus I’m sharing it with others.

Had a cold part of this week so only got to the gym 4 times. Down another pound for right at 12 lbs. down in 3 1/2 months.

Now all I have to do is maintain motivation and progress for another year and a half! :(

Didn’t do a great job of working out this week, but did start up the Panther’s push-up challenge! Will get back on my workout regimen tomorrow with a day off from work. I have 7 pounds to go until I reach my 2nd benchmark and get back to my wedding weight (ie – pre spitting out 2 monster babies!)
