Wednesday Weigh In Jan. 14, 2009
Blog To Fit is now on Twitter!
You can now follow us on Twitter.
Tara and the two Dave’s are all sharing a Twitter account for BlogToFit. So if you enjoy our posts here, you’ll likely get a zillion times the content (and one or two funny one liners) over at Twitter given the fact that some of us (cough, Fowler!, cough) are ADDICTED to it!
Even though we share an account, you’ll know who is tweeting by their initials at the end of the tweet.
So, how did the BlogToFitters do this week? Read on below!
Tara Cain
So I’ve been really really busy this week. But I have clocked up 10,000 steps on my pedometer every day too by going for walks into town when I could just easily pick up the phone and do what needs doing or jump in the car.
It’s C O L D here in England at the moment too, and W E T, but it really hasn’t put me off and only serves to invigorate me.
The only trouble is – and here’s the kicker – more exercise = bigger appetite and I’m fighting the urge to stuff my face with hot toast and crumpets the minute I walk in the door.
I know, however, that I am heading in the right direction. I now have to wear a belt on my work trousers to stop me having to hitch them up every 5 minutes and frightening everyone to death with a workman’s bum.
As you’ll see from my stats, my weight hasn’t moved much, but but but BUT I feel much much better and I KNOW I’m heading in the right direction.
The stats: Tara Cain
- Starting weight Wed. Nov.19: 168 lbs.
- Goal weight: 140 lbs.
- Weight last week: 165 lbs.
- Weight today: 164lbs
- Amount lost this week: 1 lb

The trouble when you make diet and fitness forth in your list of priorities is that it sometimes doesn’t get a look in. Especially if you have a cold that just won’t budge, accompanied by an “all or nothing” mentality. Further complicate the issue with some poor planning and it’s a recipe for not getting fit and not losing weight.
I don’t regret making fitness my forth priority – as the things I have at 1-3 are crucially important to me at the moment – but I do regret allowing my flawed Completer Finisher personality with an all or nothing approach mentality – to stop me from making some progress… even a little progress.
I’ve put on a pound in weight and a little around the middle. I’m going in the wrong direction. I’m not panicking because I haven’t fallen off the wagon or abandoned my goals as such, but something is awry here and I want to figure out what. I’ll give it some more thought before my post tomorrow.
The stats: David Fowler
Starting weight Wed. Nov.19: 200 lbs.
Goal weight 173 lbs.
Format: Start / Last Week / This Week
- Weight: 200 / 198 / 199
- Amount lost this week: GAINED 1 lb
- Hips: 40 / 39.75 / 39.75
- Waist: 38.5 / 38.25 / 38.5
- Belly: 40.25 / 40 / 40.25
- Chest: 41.5 / 41 / 41
(Weight is in lbs and measurements in inches)

Geesh, why is it everytime someone in the house gets better, someone else gets sick? This week was my son and me, who is still recovering. I didn’t get out nearly enough and the stats below are about what I expected.
This week I must get more sleep and MORE exercise!
The stats: David Wright
- Starting weight Wed. Nov.19: 350 lbs.
- Goal weight: 250 lbs.
- Weight last week: 345 lbs.
- Weight today: 345 lbs.
- Amount lost this week: 0 lbs.

This is my first official Weigh-in Week. And I gained 1/2 a pound! But, lost inches on waist and hips. Gained significant inches on thighs, but that is because I logged 10 miles of running. I easily build muscle bulk. Here are the details, and my Weigh-In Wednesday post is in CommentLuv:

Down 4 pounds last Saturday at WeightWatchers. Back to pre-Christmas weight. Could be stress eating this week, due to funeral.
We’ll know more, soon.

Arrr. Just like the artist who drew him, who I always imagine looks just like that when he’s working out, with that exact same headband and cheeky smile.

Dave and David, hope you banish the colds from your houses. That is when I start cleaning doorknobs and light switches and every where I think people constantly touch out of desperation.

Anyway, great start. Keep up the good work. x

Well done all you BlogToFitters and I hope all the bugs and germs vanish soon for those who are/have been sick the past week.
Tara – your attitiude to this whole exercise is inspiring. truly. I love the idea of a pedometer so maybe I’ll get myself strapped up too, seeings as the gym classes aren’t really working out for me.
Anyway, here are my stats this week:
Starting weight: 125lbs (8 stone 9lbs)
Goal weight: 112lbs (8 stone – pre-babies weight)
Weight last week: Well, actually it’s been a month since I last weighed myself, so I’ve been a slacker, but last time on the scales was my first time on them in a very long time. And as reported, I was 8 stone 9lbs.
Weight this week : 8 stone 7lbs.
Weight lost: 2lbs!
Cookies eaten in a week: 1 (This I am very pleased about and the only one I had was after a particularly strenuous bit of sledging with the family. I couldn’t have the hot chocolate without the shortbread. That would be like curry without naan bread. Wrong.)
Exercise: Didn’t do too well with this. I went to the gym, a few times, but sat in the cafe reading my book for bookclub, while the kids went in the creche. However, me and Him Downstairs have played on the Wii A LOT since Christmas, and I really believe this is the reason behind the lack of 2lbs round my thighs and the absence of the usual January flabby blues I feel. Instead of sitting on my derrier every night, leaping about the lounge attempting to bowl or play baseball has made a difference. The proof seems to be in the scales it seems.
So, all in all, I am amazed I got through the Xmas excess and came off 2lbs lighter. This has spurred me on to lose another pound for next week.
Yeee-hah!

2lbs is terrific!

Look’s like everyone is keeping with it — to one degree or the other — and this weekly weigh-in is helping as a motivation. I was tempted to record on of the better days of this week, but went with what I actually had, instead.
I dropped another pound this week and am seeing improvements in endurance.
While I am kind of “burning it up” at the gym, on Monday the gym was evacuated because of a small fire, with the local fire department responding.

Well done Tara! (please dont talk about butter and crumpets – it makes me dribble!) Dave and Dave… keep up the motivation and good intentions and it will happen. Germs and higher priorities don’t help I know – if only we lived the A list life where you had trainers, nannies, assistants and chefs etc! We’d soon all have Gwyneth Paltrow’s butt… tho I think it would look slightly better on me!
I lost 1 lb this week which was good seeing as I hadnt been that good every day! So to cement my good intentions I worked out extra hard this morning. Think I did too many upper body weights as my arms were shaking whilst typing!
Tara loved your dress size post! That one is a favourite hot potato of mine! Im sure Gap have down sized their sizes lately too – excuse me but I have an arse as opposed to two fried eggs and would like to be able to fit it into my normal sized jeans thank you very much!

Hi, this is my first post – just found the site. It’s a wee bit too late for me to do a diet post, i’ve just lost 1.5 stone (plus a few extra ooops!) I tried posting elsewhere, but I think it got lost in cyberspace. Anyway, i have 3 extra lbs I put on over xmas so I’ll keep you posted as to my progress. Great site by the way!

It’s a bit of a long story – basically before I had my son I was always slim – only weighed 8.5 stone but I piled it on over the years until I hit 13 stone. I lost a stone gradually (about 5 years ago) but it started creeping back up again. Then in June last year i did a blood test and found out I was at risk of diabetes – not a surprise as both my mum and gran have/had it. Anyway, I started cutting out the crisps and all the bad stuff and upped my exercise level (10 mins exercise bike and walking for around an hour every day) and it started dropping off. Then in September my dad died suddenly and that was the flash point – I lost 1/2 a stone in 3 weeks eek! Since then it’s levelled out but I’m now the healthiest i’ve been since I was pregnant with my son 16 years ago! And that was when I was vegetarian, teetotal and a non-smoker!Thanks for the reply, looks like I’ll be spending quite a bit of time here!

Wow. That is fantastic.
That is exactly how I want to achieve it – cutting out bad stuff, upping my exercise and making it part of my life.
It’s easy to blame it on the ‘babies’ but I big enough and ugly enough to take charge now!
You have really inspired me Barbie Girl.
Hospital says I gained weight my PT and Dietician say I am down 6 pounds all togther since the start…I had a CT scan…no heart attack, no strangulated hiatal hernia ( a gift from my two pregnancies) no cancer and blood sugar levels down to 102…but no relief from the chronic pain in my back or the knife wielding pain right at the bottom of my sternum bone. May not be a cold or flu but worrisome that they don’t know what it is blood pressure 240/120 on Monday after a 3 mile walking…they have taken away all the feel good stuff and my herbal vitamins and my driving privileges until they figure it out…aargh….No sympathy votes here please…just make the pain go away.

I’m not great on blood pressure and what the figures mean, but I’m thinking 240 / 120 gives enough concern to revoke your driving privileges so that can’t be good – and somewhat worrying for you, which I suppose doesn’t help. It’s seems like a self perpetuating condition.
The other results were great though Patricia. Stick in there!!
