Welcome to Blog To Fit

We're David Wright and Tara Cain, two bloggers who have come together to write about our attempts to lose weight. We're like a team of super heroes, minus the cool costumes, and well, super powers of any kind, except the ability to gain weight by simply being NEAR food.

The Schedule

M-F: Daily diet updates

Changes

We've made some changes to the site. Read about them here.

Wednesday Weigh-In July 1,2009

We CRAVE activity

Watching my two year old son has given me a new lens to look at my own life through.

Quite simply, he has SO MUCH ENERGY.

Of course he does, he’s two! He doesn’t have the years of bad eating and lack of exercise weighing him down figuratively and literally. He is in essence, a blank slate – a prime example of what the human body yearns to be before we destroy it.

ACTIVE!

I am trying my best to shake off my lethargy and do more active things with him to quench his thirst for movement. There is only so much you can do in the house, after all. I don’t want him to ever have the sorts of problems I’ve had with weight and the best thing I can do now is to make sure he eats normal foods and stays active.

And I need to be his example.

Tara Cain

I hear you loud and clear with the active children thing DW. My 6 year old is active with a capital A.
He plays cricket and football at afterschool clubs, he has swimming lessons and he plays rugby with his dad every Saturday morning.
I think children are an inspiration to us all. The greatest joy to him is if we come home from school and play tig in the backgarden together.

And you are right, that is something we as parents should embrace and join in.
What better way to keep fit and bring a little sunshine to our children’s lives?

Today has been his school’s sports day and it’s hot and sticky and he’s all sweaty and dishevelled. Boy he looks SO happy.
So much so, I’m not even going to fret over the lollipop sweet they will all be bringing home in their bookbags as a treat!

  • Starting weight Wed. Nov.19: 168 lbs.
  • Goal weight: 140 lbs.
  • Weight last week: 162 lbs.
  • Weight today: 162lbs
  • Amount lost this week:0lb

I am down 8 pounds since I started on this new program. I have lost all of the weight from the medicine gain – I am feeling fabulous and I dropped back to 5.5 miles of walking and am saving the last uphill mile for any more plateaus that come my way.
Tara and Dave F. will not even recognize me when I get off the plane in London on the 21st…
    ha ha
I am letting go….healing myself and feeling better nearly every day…Life is Good.
I could hardly wait to get here today…
Read the book by Dr. Kessler – The End of Overeating….I don’t want to be programed and mind controlled by the American Food (Tobacco) Industry in any way shape or form…food is tasting better and better.

@Patricia- Dang! 5.5 miles is GOOD.

@Dave- I try to cook “good” for the family, it’s hard, and it takes time! I think we go to convenience foods way too much because it can be so much work.

@Tara-”and he plays rugby with his dad every Saturday morning.” So I have this picture in my head from Monty Python’s “The Meaning of Life.” Some little prep school kid says something stupid in his sex education class and he gets punished by having to play rugby against the “masters.” Next scene is a bunch of kids on the rugby field getting squashed by professional rugby players. Great stuff.

I guess I don’t have enough running about with 2 year old time. She runs faster than me, honest, but is dumped 4 days a week at the childminder, so I don’t get a lot of exercise off her.
Must take her jogging next week.

My eating hasn’t been a good example, but a girl needs a break from being good now and again. Had my break, here’s to new energy for meeting my challenge for this week.

    @turfdad,
I have to get up at 5:30 am now and it makes it even better to do the walking – cool and quiet – lots of bird song….and I repeat my affirmations over and over with each step of the way. Thank you for the recognition for my effort/ I appreciate that very much

Didn’t make it to the gym at all this week as I am spending a lot of time working on the landscaping project that just keeps growing and growing and growing. ;)

I also went on a couple of little binges with ice cream and then chocolate — okay, more than just a couple “little” binges.

I weighed myself a couple of times this week and it looks like I gained a couple of pounds.

Whenever I manage to get to work on this contract job, I’ll be hitting the gym before work. As well, it looks like a good share of the time I will be in the simulator which means a high than normal amount of time at work on my feet.

Unfortunately, red tape is still balling up things. They wanted me there at the beginning of June and I was going to have most of August and September off — which we had planned to use for travel. However, the contract is for 24 weeks, which have to be used by the end of the year…, and there’s only 25 1/2 weeks left in the year — so we may be done with our 2009 travels. Last word is that I may actually get the green light early next week.

So what’s all that got to do with Wednesday Weigh-in?

Well, I worked intensively with these classes from 1992 until I retired at the beginning of 2007 — and, with every class that went through, I gained weight.

So, given past history, the next 6 months is going to be a challenge.

Oh, — and the junk food vending machine is just a few short paces away from the office that I’ll be working out of. :(
