  1. Not gaining weight is good, so congrats on that.

My weight has stayed the same this week, too.

I made it to the gym far less than planned. I think I was there three times, and one of those was just for a shower.

Because of storm damage, we had lost power on Friday and, then, on Saturday, the water pressure was gone. Apparently power had been lost to one or more pumping stations in the system, but it took nearly a day for it to go away completely. Saturday morning we took showers in our camper — with it connected to the county water system — where we could heat water with propane. We then headed off to Little Rock as planned. When we got home, water pressure was gone.

Our storm damage was relatively minor compared to some — just one maple mangled to the point where it had to come down completely and a couple of pine tree snapped of about 30 or so feet up. Unfortunately, these pines are over 30 years old and pine grows fast in the south, so there was a lot of wood to deal with.

Worked Sunday on clearing some of it and went into town to get a shower afterward.

The positive side of this is that all of the exercising that I’ve been doing has made it easier for me to do the physical labor that is needed.

Monday, I worked hard for at least 5 hours, not counting the time needed for breaks. I didn’t do quite as much yesterday as I had errands to do in town, but I did get back to it in the evening. I’ve still got quite bit more to do.

  2. I remember my wife brought home some “healthy” chocolate once. It was dark chocolate (my favorite) and it had some antioxidant that I couldn’t pronounce in it. So it was OK to eat because it “healthy,” right? That’s what I told myself! I ate a lot of chocolate for about 3 weeks until I decided I was only fooling myself.

Lost a pound this week, details at my “world famous” blog.

  3. I agree, not gaining any weight is still good progress. And the chocolate thing, I really don’t struggle with that one too much, my favorite form of chocolate is in pudding and there is a sugar version that I find very satisfying.

This is my first week joining you guys, I have a post up on my blog with progress pictures even. I have been on my journey a month and I have lost 12 pounds…. see you next week.

  4. I agree, not gaining weight is still good progress. But the chocolate thing, oh boy… my favorite form of chocolate is pudding, so I just eat the sugar free snack cups that end up being a 1 point (weight watchers) snack for me :) !

Oh guys. Don’t be so hard on yourself. You didn’t gain any weight, so that’s a plus, isn’t it? Why don’t you blame it on the stars? Apparently this is the year of the ox. And everything is happening surely, but very very slowly. So just in time for Christmas we will all have got rid of the flab and can start all over again in 2010.

Tara, muscles are heavier than fat. You are just doing very well transforming one substance into the other. Congratulations! :-)

I didn’t loose a micorgramm, but still, I am happy. Sport is doing me good, little L is sleeping through, Big M is just lovely and the sun is shining. Sod the scales for this week!

  6. I have been told to not step on the scale this week, by the medical intuitive I am working with – exercise has been good, ate very well at family college graduation dinner and got food poisoning from a Subway Sandwich quick meal. Feeling better than I have in ages and ages over all and as though I am on the right track….writing posts like a flurry because I am going to London on July 20th and walking Scotland for the end of the tour…I am so excited…so too excited..

Tara please read my post today…actually I want everyone to read it….short book review on a huge problem…once you open the biscuit package you are doomed reasons why and how we can protect our children.

I could not put this book down…written by a pediatrician who is speaking in England somewhere as I write this…powerful information.

Please everyone try to follow up on this book!

  7. Tara, I know the feeling. I’m just the same. And I have no biscuits, chocolate or other in the house. Sad. Don’t come to visit if you expect a biccie with your tea. While my only way to avoid chocolate is not to buy it (fair enough), my boss brings in a daily supply. For the office, not herself. How nice of her.

    Could I resist? Rhetorical question.

Well done guys for not putting on any weight, that is success too!

  9. For the chocolate craving problem, I find that it helps to keep around a box of sugar-free hot cocoa mix. The one I have is 50 calories per cup. If you absolutely cannot resist, it satisfies a chocolate craving and it is hot so it is more filling. You also take longer to consume it than something like a cookie or candy so you savor it longer and get more out of the experience. This is essentially a way of feeding the impulse in the least destructive way possible rather than trying to deprive yourself.

The other thing you can try is that, if you must have sweets for kids or guests, choose sweets that you don’t care for but they do. This greatly reduces temptation to indulge, but also stops others from being deprived during your time of being on a restricted diet.
