The amazing power of a mother-in-law
I am being kicked into shape by my husband’s mother.
She’s 60-something, as fit as a fiddle and puts me to shame. But she has decided to take me under her wing and sort me out!
So three nights a week we are going out walking. Power walking. And this woman can walk! I’ve only done two nights and believe me when I tell you, I come home SWEATING.
And just because we’re power walking doesn’t mean she can’t put the world to rights at the same time.
Seriously, this woman is amazing!
All joking aside though, it has been a blast. They say the best way to lose weight and get fit is to have fun, well these walks are a blast – and that’s not something many people can say about a stroll out in the evening with their mother in law!
The baby steps have started to work though. 1lb down. I’m not telling her that though, she’ll want to pick up the pace and I’m not too proud to tell you, I don’t think I could manage it just yet!

Cheerios are my friend.
I’ve taken a page out of my two year old son’s book when it comes to snacking – Cheerio’s and raisins, or rin-rin’s, as he calls them.
As far as snacks, it’s a lot healthier than the other stuff I normally shove in my mouth late at night. I’ll update you with a bit more info next week.
The stats: David Wright
- Starting weight Wed. Nov.19: 350 lbs.
- Goal weight: 250 lbs.
- Weight last week: 325 lbs.
- Weight today: 324 lbs.
- Amount lost this week: 1 lbs.
- Total lost since Nov. 19: 26 pounds

Well done, both of you!
I am still stuck where I was last week. Or worse, I went a step back… My idea of hiring a personal trainer was to find somebody to cheer me up and encourage me; but the woman I came across wanted to send me on that incredible hard diet AND torture me bootcamp style twice a week. So my exercise plans are still plans. I really have to get started as my back gets very achy from all the baby lifting.
Last week: 134 pounds
This week: 135 pounds
Pounds gained: 1
How many pounds left to lose: 10

If your instinct tells you it’s not right for you then run a mile in the opposite direction!
Personal trainers can be great but you have to find one who ‘gets’ you and who understands your needs.
A shame as I know a really great one in Scotland – don’t think you’ll want to be doing that much travelling every day though!
I say take baby steps (ha ha) and get back into it gently. But you are right to start again just after having a baby as the longer you leave it the harder it is to get back into the swing of it!

Scotland is a bit too far away, I have to agree. I am determined and obsessed, but there are limits
I envy you for your MIL being close by. Mine is great, too, and I would love to have her here to share some time & hit the road together.

Hey, I posted about working out this week too! Great minds must think alike.
Maybe MM needs a hot man trainer to motivate those those last 10 lbs away.
Hey, that’s actually a good question. Would you work harder for a hot looking trainer of the opposite sex? Be honest. I would.

Ok, don’t tell anyone, but you are getting an honest reply: I once had a crush on my trainer. It didn’t make me work out harder, but it definitely influenced my choice of workout wear.

Lol!
I never had a personal trainer, so won’t comment on that one…
Well, I’ve joined the club because I had to give my weight to hospital staff and guessed it. Out of interest I checked it up once back at home and reality struck. Just as well they didn’t give me a general anasthetic based on my guesstimate or I might have been awake through an operation (that didn’t happen anyway, how hypothetical can I get).
Anyway, I’m wearing my SIL’s clothes at the moment (she’s pregnant so doesn’t need them) because mine don’t fit me anymore and I refuse to buy new ones 2 sized up from before I had a baby. I know I need to exercise more but I’m generally too exhausted to so. Fortunately there’s the Wii Fit which makes it kind of fun so I’ll give that a try, hoping to establish a routine of 30 mins per day (not every day, but on average), plus eating more healthily.
I used the calorie intake calculator and that almost made me rather depressed. I thought I could eat 2000, instead, it’s closer to 1500 for keeping my weight. How am I supposed to lose any??? I think this weight loss attempt will be much harder because the fun exercise options aren’t so easily available for me anymore.
Can I have some chocolate now?

Wow good for you folks, both down a pound. I am down 3 pounds finally and got the glucose down .2 we are almost normal there folks…Yes! to me.
And got the blood pressure too low…106/54 makes me feel like where’s the bed all the time.
I love my walking, tho today it was nearly 80 by 9am? weather fluctuation I am told..but it was miserable and hot…and with the low BP hard to raise each foot and set it down.
OH I am so glad you have a great walking partner Tara, what a difference it can make. My mother in law did not talk but wow could she walk and hike and touch her toes…at 80…good inspiration.
You folks are awesome this week…Good for you.

A little late posting my progress this week.
I made it to the gym three times, but for most of the rest of the week I laid off most physical activity due to a back strain.
A small repair involving the removal and replacement of a couple of rotted out railroad ties turned into a major landscaping project. Apparently I lifted wrong or twisted wrong or just plain over did something.
Back is still bothering me a bit, but work is progressing on the project, albeit slow and steady.
I was at 267 lbs on Wednesday, down a half a pound.
