If anyone is interested, I've posted my final conclusions of the "extreme diet" I've been on. (Dave, you can use my website as a poster child on why extreme diets aren't good for you.)

I've posted my before and after photos, too.

Another week of no chocolate bars for me. I know that probably doesn't sound like a big deal to most people, but I was really addicted to having a BIG piece of dark chocolate (400-600 calories) after lunch EVERY day.

This is the first time in years that I've kicked the habit for more than just a couple days. I'm still eating some sweets, mostly frosted oatmeal cookies. At least they're far less caloric, and I control the quantity, something I never quite mastered with the chocolate. Eventually, I'll give those up, but I feel like they're my reward for working out.

I lost one pound this week, so I am pleased to be headed in the right direction.

Starting weight - 132
Lost this week - 1 lb.
Current weight - 130
Goal weight - 120 (but 125 is more realistic)

Tara,
I will work on some recipes, I am feeling not very food wise today as we have company and the fellow visiting has had a stomachache after each meal he has eaten. Then again my stomach is rather wrapped in cramping pain with my new medications I am testing...

I just can not weigh myself today....I feel like it is ok, but I am overwhelmed with my frustration at still having this pain around my middle and how limiting it is...even swimming hurt yesterday.

I thought I would just get my work done today and then take a few minutes to read and just be still...

I AM not giving up.

The other trick I have used it to cook chicken breasts in Salsa and them cut them up into bite size pieces to snack on. They sometimes hold the hunger off longer...

<abbr><em>Patricia’s last blog post..<a href="http://patriciaswisdom.com/2009/03/a-cautionary-note/" rel="nofollow">A Cautionary Note</a></abbr></em>

Last week, for whatever reason, I was craving black beans. So, I decided to make a batch following a standard recipe but I tossed in some other stuff I had on hand. It came out totally awesome! (and it was really easy) So I thought I would share.

Makes 6, 150 calorie side servings or 3, 300 calorie meals.

2 tsp. olive oil
1 heaping tbsp. minced garlic
1 tsp. red pepper flakes
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
2 15oz. cans black beans
1 cup water
Sea salt
3 tbsp. freshly grated Parmesan cheese
3-5 tbsp. fresh chopped cilantro

1. Drain and rinse the black beans.
2. Place the olive oil, garlic, pepper and onion in a pan over medium heat and saute until the onions just begin to turn clear.
3. Add the beans and the cup of water.
4. Continue cooking, partially covered, over medium heat for about 15 minutes until the water is almost but not quite gone.
5. Place in serving dish or divide into portions (can be refrigerated and reheated).
6. Serve hot but before serving sprinkle sea salt, Parmesan and cilantro over the top.

Yum!

Specifics on my blog post for today, but I'm up to over 35 consecutive push-ups, and I logged 11 training miles last week.

Between the Lion and I, we have tons of yummy recipes. Not sure they fit into the heart smart/weight loss category though.

Karen's chili is one of my favorite meals and I will generally eat too much. She makes enough extra that I will have chili for lunch for the following two or three days -- and, invariably, it will have an impact on my weight. She made a pot last Thursday and my weight was above last week's weigh-in every single day -- except today!

I was down .6 lbs from last week.

(specifics are on my blog post for today's weigh-in)

Tara- I don't have any recipes off the top of my head except for maybe a marinade for salmon that even my kids like. If you think you can get the kids to eat fish let me know. Eliminating most of the red meat that used to eat has been helpful in my weight loss.

Almost done with my extreme diet. LOL! As of tomorrow, I will be headed into the three weeks of eat-whatever-you-wish-but-no-sugar-or-starchy-carbs. Since I have already been off sugar/starchy carbs, I should do fine. I'm planning on continuing the next three weeks on a later stage Atkins diet (not induction), but just limiting the majority of my carbs to veggies and low-glycemic fruit.

(If anyone wants to check out my before and after pictures, and preliminary conclusions regarding the HCG Diet, please visit my blog later this week. Photos should be up by Friday, and conclusions no later than Monday. http://fatlosschronicles.blogspot.com)

Current Stats:
Starting weight, Wed. Feb. 25, 2009: 185.4 lbs.
Goal weight: 155 lbs.
Weight last week: 170.4 lbs.
Weight today: 166.2 lbs.
Amount lost this week: 4.2 lbs.
Total amount lost: 19.2 lbs.
