David, this sounds like a great plan! You can even have a little chocolat every day. Not depriving you of anything will prevent you from binging – unlike the fad diets where you cut out certain food groups completely. Like my wise grandma always says: a little bit of what you fancy is good for you. She still has her daily pastry and never really had weight problems.

Tara, this might be the bloody sleep deprivation and maybe it’s me who cannot count anymore. But: haven’t you lost a pound? I was thinking of you and wondered how you’d visualise yourself in a bikini on a beach, whilst in real life it is pourring and the wind blows away your umbrella. I could only visualise rubber boots…

I didn’t manage to increase my sleep intake, but I have lost two pounds. Unfortunately for all the wrong reasons. Sadness is a sad little helper when it comes to losing weight. I remember once losing a stone in 10 days when my ex left me for his intern (very original). I survived on a diet of white wine and cheese sandwiches.

    Stats:
    Last week: 136 pounds
    This week: 134 pounds
    Pounds lost: 2
How many pounds left to lose: 9

  2. I forgot to weigh myself today. Yesterday I was down .5 more of the medication weight gain – still 4.5 to go on that front.

I feel wonderful today and had a truly great 4 miles walk with my 500′ climb at the end, and then I came home and drafted 4 posts and edited 4 more….I have energy.

I feel like my hiking in Scotland and England -Wales will be possible – YES!

Now I must figure out the next glucose fast/test before the next round of medication arrives called Bears garlic….which is distilled in Scottish rye whiskey… these flower essences are slow but are truly making me feel better inch by inch.

I am half way through a fascinating book which I will share with you all…it will make you angry at American Food Industry in a big way…what we are doing to food, out bodies and especially our children is a shame and a disgrace and even bigger than you can imagine.
The Japanese Master Chef Organization is calling for a ban on American’s using Japanese names for their developed foods…and for the last 6 years the American Food Industry is taking over the UK also…
Greed – think Greed…until I get done with the book keep this in mind, the American Tobacco Industry is now controlling the Food Industry at nearly a 56% global rate.

  3. I’m feeling for you!

First off – agree that you have to avoid having any of the bad stuff around – just leave it in the grocery aisle altogether. Replace with the good stuff and once you’ve cut the crud for a while, your body will (may?) start to really love the good stuff. There’s a ‘cleansing’ feeling is the best way of describing it. All those fruits, and veggies just become much yummier once you’ve got the toxic stuff out of your system.

I’m a big proponent of having smaller meals and more frequent meals – so, go for 5-6 meals a day, with smaller portions.

Have you found activities that you enjoy doing? If not, keep looking, and book it into your time. Turn it into scheduled time that you can not push away. I just found out that here in Canada, they revised the information again, and are now suggesting that 30 minutes per day, EVERY day is what is recommended. No, don’t groan! Trust me when you find something you love, you’ll want to do it more frequently than every day, 30 minutes! Good luck!

  4. David – best of luck at only eating when you are REALLY hungry. I’d fail at that, I think.

Tara – great that you’re sticking to the plan. This weekly checking in is helping me keep to my unofficial plan.

We’re back home after being gone for most (all) of the month. I usually weigh myself at the gym as the scales there are more accurate — and usually indicate a lower weight — than the set we have here at home. However, according to the scales here, I gained while we were gone.

The last time I weighed myself was four weeks ago. Since then, I’ve gained 1.9 lbs., and drove over 2500 miles, ate out much more than usual and had way too much to eat, including sweets, at family gatherings.

I’ll be posting more pictures and info about our trip in coming days.

  5. 2,000 calories seems ideal for you right now, Dave.

I gained this week. After writing a menu from my favorite restaurant over and over, craving their food the entire time, I finally got the chance to feast. I did. Two days in a row. Did I mention this restaurant uses a pound of butter in every plate?

    Hmmm…. butter.
