  1. Buggeration, indeed! What a great word! I had planned to be down 10 pounds at Saturday’s WeightWatchers weigh-in. But wouldn’t you know it, I’m down 9.2 lbs total. Crap! I should’ve left one foot off the scale.

This week has been so stressful, as it’s when we get busy making up our gift baskets, shipping hundreds of them, and dealing with late product deliveries and snafus. I admit to grazing chocolates and caramels. I’ve tried to make up for it by halving portions with other meals, but I’m really wondering if I’ll make the friggin’ .08 lb loss I need for my benchmark on Saturday. Rats!

Crikey, I want a real drink, too! That’s 4 points right there if I have what I really crave and that’s a nice full jigger of Seagram’s 7 splashed over crushed ice and topped off with a little 7-up. These crappy little 2 point glasses of wine really chap my a$$. Just sayin’. :D

Betsy, you’ve done a tremendous job given what you’ve been dealing with. You’re so close to your goal and I’m confident you’ll make it! :D

LMAO at your style of writing today! It cracks me up.

Betsy don’t beat yourself up (that’ our job!) you have done a brilliant job.
Have that drink, enjoy every single mouthful and then make up for it the next day!

  2. “In the week before Christmas we’ve well and truly entered the danger zone, but this is no time to panic.” It’s been the danger zone at my house for weeks! o.O;

I agree with Betsy, Buggeration is definitely a fabulous word! I’m dubbing it the word of the day.

Update #5 is in the commentluv. Buggeration, its still subzero here.

    Keep warm and well, y’all!

….and Word Of The Day? Wooo Hooo!

  3. Buggeration is a great word – I used it all the time, in fact I thought I was the only person who did!

Ok, so my blog is taking a rest but I’m still trying to keep the weight off. Sadly, due to comfort eating (stressful week) and a few too many glasses of lemonade…hic….I have lost : exactly nothing. But hey, it could have been a whole lot worse.

I sympathise with the three of you, even though you all still doing well, it just takes one thing to knock you off your stride. Plus, this is going to be such a hard time to keep on the straight and narrow – all those chocs and mince pies that just HAVE to be eaten. Well it would be rude not to wouldn’t it?

    David Fowler Reply:

notSupermum, I think preventing an increase in weight can be counted as a win at this time of year. The temptation is almost unbearable. I’m pleased to hear you didn’t gain!! :)

    Actual lemonade??? Hmmmm? I’m suspicious.

    [Reply]

    Tara Cain Reply:

Christmas is for enjoying and that is exactly what I am going to do (with a splash of lemonade here and there!) but have given myself a talking to and will not be bingeing until my insides feel fit to burst!

  4. Great job, Betsy! Almost ten pounds is a lot.

This is the hardest time of year to do what you guys are doing. Enjoy your December, with moderation of course, and be ready to go full throttle in January.

  5. Buggeration is awesome. That’s going to make it into my daily vocabulary I think.

    Way to go Dave Wright!
Dave Fowler – what a good attitude you have about your week. I hope that nerve resolves quickly, that sound painful.
Tara – the time of year is so hard. there is food everywhere at work. I’ve started staying in my classroom as much as possible just to avoid it.

So here we go for me:
    * Starting weight: 284 lbs.
    * Goal weight: 180 lbs.
    * Weight last week: 278.6 lbs.
    * Weight today: 278.4 lbs.
    * Amount lost this week: .2 lbs.

Not a whopping success by any means but I’m happy that it’s not a gain. I’m still sticking with my healthier eating plan but when my schedule gets disrupted (two snow days in the last week so I’ve been at home instead of work) I get messed up and temptation of the quick lunch out gets me. Next week we start winter vacation for two weeks and I’m hoping I can keep myself in check with all that free time.

Jen, a point 2 loss is something worthy of a cheer. Yay! Celebrate every success is what I say. As a homebody I’m constantly tempted so I understand what you mean. Keep going Jen, you’re doing well. :)

Oh yes, I’m pleased to report that my trapped nerve is getting better, thanks.

    [Reply]

    Tara Cain Reply:

Jen how can you not be jumping up and down and cheering with that loss (burns calories too!).
That is just excellent – especially with all the food voices calling from around us all this festive season! Clearly you have learned how to ignore most of them.

  6. Healthy attitude Trio. Long term and sustained weight loss isn’t about continually losing weight. It’s also about maintaining weight in the face of adversity. WOOT!

I am back to the gym after week off, and I pushed myself on the treadmill to burn off some (a lot) of frustrations I was having with my client.

THEN I faced the work Christmas Party buffet! Proud to say, I was very selective in what I put on my plate, so that it wasn’t over loaded. No alcohol. And I did have desert, but of the 6 marvelous choices facing me, I had the thinnest slice of Bouche Noel (Christmas log) and a half slice of cheesecake. I didn’t feel deprived, AND I didn’t have that gross/guilty feeling of buggeration. <–you knew I’d slip that in somewhere.

Panther, what a fantastic example you’re setting! I love that you beat the desert dilemma… by having some. I honestly think that’s the way to go. You had some. Then you stopped. Brilliant.

Great news on the gym work. I look forward to moving my own body in the lead up to Christmas – I’ve been fairly immobile this last week and it sucks to buggeration. I’m proud of you for getting that right at the last moment!! :D

  7. I have had an amazing week of progress and I even wrote a bit about fat on my blog today – more stuff from my amazing dietitian.
It is massively snowing here, something we never get, and with the huge wind an amazing -3 F on the wind chill record…but about 5′F last night. It warmed up enough to make the weather folks say we would get about 12″ today…but we have almost no snow removal equipment so the schools are closed (fortunately my kiddo drove over the mountains in the dry, cold, sunshine yesterday) This is too cold to work out in so I am scheduling a dance party for the livingroom later this afternoon, a second round of tennis or bowling on the Wii and just to be patient.

I have 2 90 minute drives to the airport (noon Friday) and (11pm Tuesday) to pick up other kiddos…and the thought of that is raising my blood pressure a bit this morning. I am also having to eat on my schedule/my food/ and not eat with the folks who want dinner fashionably late…

( my Mother always said never use the word b—ger or any form of it in Canadian or English society and always use serviette not napkin too – so I will honor her request, but think the sound of that word would be amazing to say!)
so here are my stats this week:
I had a 12 hour clear liquid/fast/12 hour water only fast on Sunday to Monday morning…which has made my GI track really slow down
    weight up .5#
blood pressure: still off the medications and starting the 4th week 120/67 all week until today 140/64 this morning with the snow…
full workout schedule on target/ well not today with the snow
now for the blood sugar level test 114 ( the Dr says still very high…but I think I am very successful at what I am doing I started five months ago at 118, which is where diabetics on insulin shots want to get to….2 months ago I got it down to 116 so I think this is another 2 point success)
I wish I would have a 10# drop in weight which would truly bolster my progress on all fronts…but my body just does not wish to comply
Isn’t skin lovely on water – also on fog!
The cyst on my lip is going down and the 3 on my right leg are nearly non – existant and no signs of cancer.
I have made a new find that is working for me and I will pass it on here:
Cookbook: The Low GI cookbook and The Low GI diet cookbook -
(glucose index) by Dr. Jennie Brand-Miller, Kay Foster-Powell and Joanna McMillan-Price
The GI cookbook is divided up into catagories of information for people who eat meat and people who don’t Vegetarians and Vegans…then divided again for adults, teens, and children – it is very smart and the food is yummy yummy – not just imitating the high fat stuff…real fuel and the Caramelized Onion and Goat Cheese Pizza was exquisite eating ( I had that for Thanksgiving day after). The kids rated it a 10 on a scale of 1-10 (10 high)
The diet book so far has been equally as yummy and good energy food but I don’t eat veal so can not comment on that section…
The food makes me feel better when I eat/ lately nothing has tasted good or made me feel good, so I put this on my high success list for this week.

  9. Hi… Slacker reporting in again!
I didnt comment last week due to being racked with nasty pre Christmas cough germ thing that made me sound (and possibly look) like Bob Fleming! (Fast Show anyone?!) Anyhoo… due to calories burnt off by coughing up my innermost being and needing inhaler 5 times a day (and no exercise or calorie counting!) I somehow shed 1lb of muffin top last week but nothing this week! But thats fine… I’m heading in the right direction.. which is a Christmas miracle…. at Christmas time! Well done to all for keeping the faith at a time in which we are fully encouraged to scoff until we barf! xx

  10. Hey! Great job everybody! Even Dave and his .2 lbs over. What is that like 3 onces? Sounds like a pretty fancy scale you are using. If anybody walks away from December just a little bit lighter they have done good.

I’m with you. December is a swine of a month for losing weight. I just hope to minimize the damage.

  11. Steady as she goes is the title for the week. No movement down or up. Just holding steady at 203.

Personally, I consider this a major victory. I am still trying to break through the wall. The holidays and the end of the year have me wiped.

No post on the site this week and that means the accountability is gone.

Got to get back in it next week.

DC Urban Dad, I too would say that’s a good result. I had considered that this was a mad time of year to start losing weight, but it’s probably the best time to be trying.

I wonder whether the additional Christmas calories might help you break through the wall?

It’s good that you posted here today, even if you haven;t done so at your own place. Shows commitment!!

    Tara Cain Reply:

Accountability hasn’t gone Urban Dad because you’re over here telling all and you are doing exactly what you should be. Holding steady is great at this time of the year and come Jan I predict you are going to join us in holding hands and kicking the stuffing out of that darm wall!

  12. Better late than never I guess — too busy yesterday to make a post — had other pressing issues :(

I was surprised to be down .5 lbs given the week just past, but pleased. Now all I have to do is resist temptation and continue making it to the fitness center — no obstacles in the near future, except the holidays that it’s closed for.

I did… I did… It’s right there in the comment luv link after my comment above and the one for this comment, too. I wrote it first so that I wouldn’t fill the comments up here with all the painful details. Of course, it was a day late, too!

I think the fitness center is closed Christmas Eve, Christmas and New Years Day. They need to rest up for the “New Years resolution crush.”

No exercise today… got a daughter’s wedding to go to. ;)
