  1. You’re all down this week, so it’s all good! Here’s my progress. The week before last was Thanksgiving, so I didn’t weigh in at WeightWatchers. Last Saturday, 12/6, when I returned, I knew I had done my best to conteract the Thanksgiving and following weekend food fest. So…between 11/22 and 12/6 I lost another 3.4 lbs! That means I’m -8.2 lbs total! Yay!

I hope to make it an even 10 by the end of the week. Yesterday I had a disturbing scarf-fest though, with some crispy cheese sticks. It is really hard as my “day job” is providing gourmet gift baskets to businesses from other businesses. I am working with tempting truffles, crisp crackers, yummy spreads, and gourmet cookies ALL DAY LONG! ARGGHHH!!

I figured it would take me a month to lose 10 pounds, and so far, even with Thanksgiving, that’s the trend. The biggest difference for me was changing from cocktails to wine. I’m an old sod, so it must’ve been eliminating the amazing amount of caloric intake during happy hour. :D

Betsy, it’s great to read about that kind of sucess. Well done. !YAY!

Yeah I can imagine it’s tough being around the gourmet food. It’s tough enough being around non gourmet stuff. :)

  2. Betsy! That is a fab result – even with Thanksgiving in the middle of it.
You are absolutely on the road my dear, and a great incentive to all of us.

It’s not as bad as you’re making out Avlor. We aren’t going to put you in the naughty corner or anything (we save that for Dave F when he keeps going on about how much his bum hurts – sheesh!)
The important thing is you know why and that you have every intention of doing better.

  4. Well done Tara, Dave and David! You have all lost weight this week which is, after all, what this is all about.

I also lost 2.25lb, which is good but I DID gain 3.25lb last week. I tried my best to keep the pact with Tara, and glad to see she did likewise even though she had a child’s birthday to contend with. My tip for Tara is: cancel all children’s birthdays until you reach your target weight. I’m sure they won’t mind ;-) Well done Tara!

No good with the childrens parties though, I’m afraid. My son has another 2 between now and Christmas and 3 in January! But that is a whole other blog post altogether!

    * Starting weight Wed. Dec. 3: 168 lbs.
    * Goal weight: 150 lbs.
    * Weight last week: 168 lbs.
    * Weight today: 167lbs
    * Amount lost this week: 1lb

What worked for me was exercising 4 days this past week. What didn’t work was the amount of grazing I did due to holiday baking and stress. Also, I drank too much on Saturday!

My goal next week is to increase exercise time, and avoid temptation. My husband purchased 2 spin bikes that I worked on a few times. I’m preparing to join a time that is riding to raise money for MS next August.

    Snap Sarah. I’m a 1lb loser too!
And wow with the bike riding plans. I think training for that will be your success.

I am going a whole week without going to the gym because I am home this week. I actually miss it. But not enough to drive the 40 minutes to my gym.

  7. Everyone had a good weight loss this week…this is looking very good as we start into the super holidays.
I lost 3.6 lbs. this week. and my tummy is noticeably flatter but I have to race to a Celebration of Life Service so I do not have time to measure…my slacks are looser…
Big news is I ate and had wine at 1 cookie/tea party (I had all 6 kinds of cookies, and `1/2 slice pear tart), then I went to my husband’s office party – more wine and dessert, and then the work out women’s party. I ate 1/2 of each entree and then brought the rest home to have later for lunch…
Before I went to each party I had something to eat….1 and 1/2 cups of my low fat green bean, turkey soup before tea party, 6 oz. soy yoghurt before each of the dinner parties. I did not drink at the second dinner party – was not worth the calories…I had the bar tender put Pelligrino’s orange sparkling water in a glass with a slice of orange and a stir stick….everyone thought I was drinking orange blossoms…I also added an extra 30 minute walk to each day over the weekend…
I did get behind on writing…
Next week will be the kicker….I have another blood sugar test after a 24 hour liquid fast and an 8 hour fast…..
Dave F…my dietician says to eat about 3 oz of protein 30 minutes after you exercise…(like a hard boiled egg) That will significantly moderate your appetite and pull it back.
DW isn’t extra work a blessing of a distraction! :)
Tara….have you tried Celestial Seasonings Candy Cane Lane/ or Gingerbread green tea?…..It is like having that biscuit or cake in a hot cup of tea…if you can’t get any email me your address and I will send you some…It is a God send before those kids parties…I am dependent
I want to tell everyone about a celldetox lotion and a refreshing lotion that is making a huge difference in my life and skin tone….but I have to go officiate this service…I’ll be back tonight…

  8. Gingerbread tea? That sounds far too good to be true. I absolutely LOVE gingerbread. Never heard of the brand though. Do they sell it in England? Maybe under a different brand name. Look, I’m all excited about it now!

  9. Awesome job this week everyone!! It’s wonderful to see that everyone lost. :D

So here’s how I did this week:
    Starting weight: 284
    Goal weight: 180 lbs
    Last week: 281
    Today: 278.6
Amount lost: 2.4 pounds (total: 5.4 pounds)

This week I’ve been sticking to my plan of eating more in the morning and getting in some healthy snacks. One thing that’s plaguing me a little is dinner time. My husbands work schedule varies and I always try to eat with him but this week we’ve had some late dinners and that hurt me some – not to mention a couple late nights with some 11 pm snacks because my stomach was grumbling 5 hours after dinner.

This week I did have one experience that I haven’t blogged about and I’m not sure I’m going to but I think I’ll mention it here. I was making the rounds in my classroom picking up when my ears perked up on my name in conversation over at one of the student tables “You think Mrs. S. is fat?” It was like being sucker punched. I know it’s true but I’d never heard the kids talk about it before. I didn’t find out if they knew I heard them and I tried to pretend I didn’t hear it but I couldn’t get it out of my head for a good two days after that. I don’t want to be that person that students talk about in that way. It was eye opening, sort of busted the lid off of any sort of denial I might have been in. It was good to jump on the scale today and see two pounds gone for good.

Congrats on the weight loss, Jen!
Sorry about the kids saying what they did. That sucks. I know the feeling all too well. Several years ago, the first time I really tried to do something about my weight, I was walking home – about 5 miles from where I was. I chose to walk in order to lose weight. It was a hot HOT Florida summer day and the heat was getting to me, as was a recent knee injury.

About 3/4 of the way home, I leaned over to catch my wind and rest my legs a second when a car full of either high school or college girls drove by and screamed, “Try Jenny Craig!”

It’s one thing to have guys give you crap for being fat, but coming from girls, it has that little extra jab. I was devastated, and pissed, for days.

I don’t know what grade you teach, but if it’s younger kids, you can take some solace in knowing that the kids might have just been talking honestly and not with mean intent. So try not to let it get to you and keep up the great work!

aye aye, that is horrible. Maybe that’s the kick you needed (although you’re doing pretty fab on your own!).
You have to keep imagining the day when you go in and they’re whispering ‘look how much weight miss has lost’!

  10. the Gingerbread tea is from Celestial Seasoning’s tea which is out of Colorado they only put that out in December but I just Googled it and found it several places…very light weight could be worth the shipping price…

the Candy Cane lane takes away my need for chocolate cake moments!

Are you eating too little and kicking your bodies starvation mode into gear? Perhaps the fluctuation is just the normal day-to-day changes, possibly water weight? I’m sure if you keep at it, you’re on the right track.

    [Reply]

    Mike Goad Reply:

I’m not eating too little, though I am eating quite a bit less than my “norm.”
This is pretty typical for what happens with me when I try to lose weight. The key for me is to look beyond this week or even next week and the week after and realize that if I keep at it, it will be successful.

  12. Some of the best advice I recently got was to cut myself some slack. I definitely have seen some changes in my lifestyle over the past couple of weeks and I am proud of what I have accomplished.

My energy is up and as is my resolve. I want to be healthier, fitter, faster and smarter about what I put in my body.

This week I am 203 and I lost another 3 lbs. So despite feeling the wall come up, I am fighting through it.

“Some of the best advice I recently got was to cut myself some slack” – it isn’t until I read this that I realised that yes, I could probably do with some of that too.
    It’s all ‘I must do this’ and ‘I mustn’t do that’ and if I do/don’t I’m a failure.
Am talking that onboard Urban Dad. Thanks for that.
